Nick Emacio - Let’s Talk About Dreams

So our very own bass player extraordinaire Nick Emacio wrote a wonderful post that gives you some of the never-before-heard details behind the Emery tour and why it means so much to us… read on!
Let’s Talk About Dreams
I never quite know how to start these things so I’m going to just jump right in to this: I’m asking you for help. Let me fill you in on the past few weeks of my life.
A few months ago I was fortunate to be asked to play bass in the band Peace Mercutio. The other three gentlemen is this band(Dan, Andy, and Taylor) have been some of my closest friends over the last few years and I was honored to be apart of what they were hoping to achieve. Before I joined the band they had planned on leaving their very respectable jobs to pursue a full time career in music. I came in to this band knowing here was a certain amount of risk personally and professionally but I knew I couldn’t pass up the chance. Let’s fast forward a few weeks and a few shows and decisions later…
We were lucky enough to secure a spot on a midwest/east coast tour with a band called Emery. “I haven’t ever heard of them.” you say? Let me give you a quick run down. Emery is a band that had their first album drop when I was a freshman in high school and have been a huge influence of mine and many others. They shaped the sound of bands in our music scene for years to come and were a primary influence for the boys in Peace Mercutio moving to Seattle from the midwest. To say that we are lucky to be on this tour would be the understatement of all time. Let me jump in to that for a second.
Being able to go on tour with Emery as an unsigned/unknown band amongst thousands is relative to winning the lottery in the band world. Let me explain. Any band can go on tour. We can all call small clubs and bars and go on the most glorified vacation of all time where we make amazing memories with our friends but play in front of 3 people a night. Most bands that are on tour with larger, signed bands are also on labels and have financial backing and management that secure their spots. Here comes the point…
We need help. All of us work full time jobs to barely afford to call ourselves “broke”. Music is such an unstable business at this point- most bands we love and look up to also have day jobs when they are off tour. Between the cost of paying for our recordings, gas, food, and general expenses-we should be on the side of the road begging for quarters.
I can honestly say in all the years of me being in a band I have never asked for the help of my friends and family. I have always been appreciative of everyone that has come to our shows and bought our albums but usually I give away our music and try to play free shows. Why?- because the art that I create is something that I just want to share with everyone. I can’t thank everyone enough for the support over the years for everything I have done. So why would I ask for help now? Because this is our shot. If I ever had to say that we had a chance to ‘make it”: this is it. So many people have told me my whole life that this is my calling and I’m hoping that those people can put a few dollars aside and really get behind us now when we need it the most.
I’m humbly asking you to contribute to our cause as a band on our Indie Go-Go page. We are offering options for compensation in the form of music, merchandise, and even some awesome hang outs in the form of a pizza party.
I know it’s a huge thing to ask anyone for help. The economy sucks and there are plenty of people in a hard spot. I know not everyone can help. If you have even read his far in this long note I have written I couldn’t explain how much it means to me to even have your time. I’m just hoping that those who can and want to help out do so. We play music for people and those who support what we do really are the only reason we do what we do and also the only way we survive. Thank you so much for everything thus far- you know I love and appreciate you all. Here is the link:
